Hulunbuir Hailar in Inner Mongolia, a mid-altitude mountainous region characterized by complex terrain and crisscrossing ravines, harbors a diverse array of microenvironments that profoundly drive microbial ecological differentiation and biodiversity. In 2013, the R&D team from Wecare Probiotics ventured deep into this area to prospect for valuable probiotic resources. In this "natural laboratory of life"—located in the heart of the plateau, with its distinctive cool climate and pristine grassland ecosystem—the researchers conducted persistent resource exploration. Ultimately, they successfully isolated and identified a highly groundbreaking strain from the human microecological niche of the intestinal tracts of local healthy infants.

This strain demonstrates exceptional stress tolerance, enabling it to withstand the harsh challenges of the human gastrointestinal environment with remarkable tenacity. The refinement of its vitality stems from three key factors: the natural selection pressure exerted by the significant diurnal temperature variations in the grassland, the pure nomadic lifestyle of the local population, and the unique intestinal microenvironment shaped in the host by the traditional dietary structure of nomadic communities.

Back in the laboratory, the research team carried out extensive work, evaluating the strain across multiple dimensions: strain screening, taxonomic identification, probiotic characteristics, safety, and industrial applicability. From nearly ten thousand candidate strains, the team selected a single strain of Weizmannia coagulans with superior comprehensive properties, which was subsequently designated as BC99.

Weizmannia(Bacillus)coagulans BC99 has not undergone any genetic modification. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the European Union's genetically modified food regulations: Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 and Regulation (EC) No 1830/2003, BC99 is not composed of genetically modified ingredients, does not contain genetically modified ingredients, and is not produced using genetically modified organisms[2].
